Answer the following questions.
1.       The stranger choose the mason for the job because he wanted
Ans: someone who could relied upon
2.       ’The poor mason`s hair rose on his head these words” .This means that the mason
   Ans:  Was really frightened at what he thought he had to do.
3.       The landlord choose the mason for the job because he wanted
Ans:  A person who would work very little money.
4.       What condition did the mason lay down before agreeing to work for the stranger?
Ans:  The condition that the mason laid down before agreeing to work for the stranger was that he should be paid accordingly.
5.       The blindfold of the mason was removed in a court. Where was the court located? What did the mason see over there?
Ans:  When the bandage was removed from his eyes ,he found himself in a court, dimly lighted by a single lamp. In the centre was the dry bad in of an old Moorish fountain. The court was located in the interior part of the building.
6.        What terrified the mason ? When was his mind put at ease?
Ans:   The job of burying the dead bodies terrified the mason .He was expecting to see some horrible scene of death but was relieved on seeing three or four portly jars full of money standing in one corner.
7.       What did the stranger ask the mason to do after giving him the two pieces of gold?
Ans:  The stranger asked the mason not to uncover his eyes until he hear  the cathedral bell toll for the morning prayer. If he dare to uncover his eyes  before that time evil will come upon him.
8.       Why did landlord complain about the ‘old miser`s” house?
Ans:  The landlord complained about the ‘old miser`s” house because the old house was decaying ,which costs him more money than it is worth to keep it in repair, for nobody will live in it.

1.       What does the father bring to the child`s attention in the first stanza of the poem  ?
Ans: The father drew the child`s attention to the rain pouring over the roof. He also made the child to listen roaring winds.
2.       What three things does the storyteller to mention to show that danger was close at hand on the night when he was lost?
Ans: Lonely mountain, wolves  in the forest, and bears in the bushes were the images that showed danger was close at hand on the night when he was lost.
3.       What were the two things that protected him from the rough weather
Ans: The pine tree and the wet fur protected him from the rough weather.
4.       Quote the lines in which the father tells the child that it is safer to be inside the house
rather than  outside it on a stormy night?
Ans: The lines in which the father told the child that it was safer to be inside the house rather than outside it on a stormy night are
